Biography

Charles Opper (b. 1976) is an emerging photographic artist exploring the marshes and maritime forests of coastal Georgia. He lives in Midway, Georgia and is self-taught. Starting in 2015, he discovered photography as a medium to connect people to the environment. His foremost passion is capturing natural imagery to build narratives inspired from both personal journeys and imaginative story to highlight the relationships between man and nature. His imagery captures nature in both the pristine state and also with manmade elements that focuses on both the local culture and awareness of human impact on coastal environments. He also enjoys capturing the natural and unusual behavior of wildlife found on the coast and revealing nature’s mysteries.

His methods include both traditional digital photographic techniques to capture representational images as well as various abstract techniques through multiple-exposure and intentional camera movement. He works in both color and black and white. He uses a combination of both natural and artificial light. He contributes both his digital work and personally made fine-art prints to organizations that support coastal conservation and enrichment of the arts. His work can also be found in local gallery exhibits and traditional shows.
